Building Rapport and Trust

Training in karate means self-respect and respect for others no matter who they are. "Karate begins and ends with courtesy." I consider this an important part of my life and consistent with my beliefs and values.

The concept goes a long way in building rapport and trust with individuals we meet in our personal lives and in developing karate deshi into karateka. I believe that this is part of what helps us develop control in our techniques as we move up from white belts to black belts. The belief of constant respect for others and their well-being. This belief must be suspended in a real fight, but is always part of our thinking.
