Technique of the Week : Proper Body Alignment in Zenkutsu-Dachi
When Doing zenkutsu-dachi, slightly downward forward leaning stance, many students are leaning too far forward with their head, which causes them to bend the forward knee too far forward. This creates a strain on the knee.
In order to correct this pull the head back over the torso and bring
the chin in slightly. Remember there should be no tension in the upper
body
As for the foundation, the front foot is straight. The back leg is locked
out.
The rear foot must exhibit the following to have the proper stance:
- A good 45 degree outward angle
- The heel and knife edge flush on the deck
- The arch up and the toes gripping the deck
