Eyes
First Attitude
Eyes! Feet! Technique! We always hear this over and over.
The techniques we deliver are deadly. The foundation we need
to deliver those deadly techniques must be strong and rooted
to the earth. The foundations we need to root into the earth
are guided by the vision we see in our eyes.
Our eyes begin the pathway to a deadly strike. They tell what
blocks to use. They tell us to step to the side to avoid a strike.
They see a face punch and tell us to block. They see an opening
in a opponent and tell us to get low and strike a vulnerable
spot. They also tell us that we do not need to defend and strike
when there is no threat to us.
Spend some time paying extra attention to your eyes. Are we
all looking first before we turn? Practice breaking techniques
down to three counts per move.
1. ICHI---look in the direction you are moving to next.
2. NI---root the feet to the proper stance and make sure you
are in the correct middle move.
3. San---Explode into the technique.
