At a recent discussion about getting students to show up at dojo events, I overheard someone mention excuses for being absent. If you do not show up at dojo functions, you presence is not felt, and you miss out on the experience FOREVER. The "excuse" is irrelevant. At our club, if someone misses an event, we do not ask for "excuses", because we feel there is no excuse. We simply stress to the absentee that they must be there next time. Your sempai always gives plenty of advance notice, so you should make arrangements beforehand and just show up.
