Before
The Class Begins
Beginners A critical time at the dojo before
the class.
Try to arrive at least 15 minutes before the class.
From the moment you walk on the deck your job is to work
on improving technique.
Head directly for the most valuable tool in the dojo - the
mirror. Begin with kata slow motion. Each time you
start a kata, begin by facing another direction. This will
give you the opportunity to view all the moves.
If there is a high ranking belt on the deck ask them if
they would observe and offer corrections. This is an invaluable
time.
You should be perspiring before the class begins
before the customary warmups. Perspiring profusely
is better still.
Continue these steps as your rank improves.
As your study of karate continues in the upcoming years
take advantage of each one of these valuable moments before
the class begins. It will pay off bigtime.
Arigato,
Steve Lott
