This
week's thought is from Sensei
Steve Lott, Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate,
Onegai-shimasu Hanshi, Kyoshi, and Deshi of Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate,
Screw
Punch Keep the elbow close to the body on the return
When performing screw punch keep an eye out for a common error.
Here is the chamber:
The punch goes out to the target - nose of the opponent
As the arm returns to the chamber the elbow must be kept close to the body:
The error --- sometimes the elbow wings away from the body on the return:
And then back to the chamber:
Just as we do with every other technique, use the mirror when practicing. Work with your training partner when a mirror is not available.
Keep the elbow close to the body on the return. And remember the emphasis is on the return. The fist comes back faster than it goes out.
Arigato,
Steve Lott
