Our recent celebration of Independence Day has given us all time and opportunity to pause and honor the founders of our great nation. With similar spirit and state of mind, we might take a few moments to remember and appreciate the efforts of those who came before us in creating, disseminating, and retaining our martial art worldwide. In our bows, in our words (“domo arigato gozaimasu” and “onegai shimasu”), and in our deeds (most importantly showing up to train on the deck), we convey an enduring sense of gratitude to the Okinawan shinden of Shorin-Ryu Karate, to Master Ueshiro, to Hanshi Scaglione, and to all forthcoming leaders who commit to perpetuating the treasures of karate do.
