Full Commitment
In his book,
"Karate-do My Way of Life" Gichin Funakoshi tells
his reader that training should be done in a deadly serious
way. He says that by "deadly serious" he does not
mean "that you should be reasonably diligent or moderately
in earnest. I mean that your opponent should always be present
in your mind whether you sit or stand or walk or raise your
arms. Should you in combat strike a karate blow, you must have
no doubt whatsoever that that one blow decides everything..."
Hanshi wrote in the red book, "..This is why spirit is
of utmost importance and why one should try to maintain an optimum
level of spirit, endurance and strength in order to achieve
maximum results from training. This principle applied to life
itself allows us to accept the challenge if the need arises."
On the deck Hanshi always encourages us to use full commitment
in our techniques.
As difficult as it may be sometimes, we should always strive
to be fully commited to what we do, to apply maximum effort
and always be prepared for what ever may be presented to us.
It is our challange.
