Working Zenkutsu-dachi

Page 77 from the Shorin-Ryu Okinawan Karate Question and Answer Book

"Zenkutsu-dachi":
The front leg is bent and the knee is over the toes. The rear leg knee is locked out. Seventy percent of the weight is on the front leg, thirty percent is on the rear leg.

Regardless of your current rank, take a look at how many different techniques you use in all of your katas that incorporate the Zenkutsu-dachi stance. Now take those individual techniques in the Zenkutsu-dachi stance and work them in a single line across the deck.

Gedan-uke, Tomoe-zuki, Morote-soe-uke, Gedan Shotei-ate, Tate-hiji-ate, and even a simple chudan-zuki.

Working these in Zenkutsu-dachi across the deck will surely sharpen them even more when executed in their katas.

Get low first!

Aloha,
