"Modify Techniques When Necessary"

Occasionally, an injury requires an alternative technique. For example, if a student is training with a splint around a broken finger, it makes sense to use an elbow strike instead of delivering a punch with the injured finger pointed at the opponent. Particularly when training kata with a "real situation" mindset, it is appropriate to explore ways to work around injuries. For example, if an arm has a dislocated shoulder, try a head block using the other arm, or if a big toe is broken, try kicking with different surfaces of the foot.
