BUNKAI ALTERNATIVE
First we learn kihon techniques, then we put them together to practice kata. Once we feel comfortable with the kata we can apply an offensive attack to the kata. This is called bunkai. Bunkai techniques are first applied "directly" to the kata moves in the learning process with the intention of demonstrating the kata application.
After years of practice the experienced Deshi might want to apply the attack technique from a different direction in order to experience how other different parts of the body come into play during the fight. Multiple attackers can add the final touch to real life defensive protection practice. Multiple repetitions develop body memory.
Keep training.
