When doing a move from a kata or reacting in a self-defense situation it is most important to step out with zero tension.
Do not tense up during the travel to the target. Do not tense up while chambering. 0% tension allows maximum speed to the technique at hand.Common error is to tense up and then execute.
The tension is applied when contact is made and at 100%.
