"Pinan 3"
Pinan3- the difficult techniques:
Following the spearhand thrust, the right hand compliments the oi-tsuki punch, with the
50/50 aspect of all hand/arm techniques. The diversity of this particular move is best
described by observation of the physical movement.
Height changes and weight distribution of the postures are imperative throughout the kata.
These are described in detail in the "Building Warrior Spirit Book", pages 41 to
46.
The backfist is delivered from the centerline of the chest and returned to the hip with a
snapping movement.
The leg sweeps are not brought to the chamber after the sweep but step directly into the
stance.
The last two cat stances-elbow- punch combination emphasize the step first principal. Set
the posture then execute the combination attack, "bouncing" the punch.
The difficulty factor of the techniques described require careful monitoring and
demonstration by the instructors.
