Arigato,
Kyoshi Robert Scaglione.BowingShowing Respect
It is our practice to show respect in the Dojo at all times. We bow as we enter/leave the deck, we pay respect to our forefathers by bowing to the Shinden as we begin/close our training. This practice can also
be carried out through the normal course of our lives.
A bow or even perhaps a simple nod to acknowledge the gratitude we feel towards a certain item allows us to recognize the importance of the item in our lives. We can start by bowing/nodding to the very PC we are using the moment we read this. With this show of respect we acknowledge the people, the skills, the technology that created and brought the PC into our lives. The cars we drive, the subway trains we take, the buildings we walk by each day, the water faucet we turn on each day , are all examples of things we may use each day without much thought.
Some may fall into the trap of taking things for granted, but by simply bowing/nodding and recognizing something then we show respect for the contributions that particular thing has made to our lives and the people that helped bring it to us.
Through this show of respect we will soon find ourselves bowing/nodding to all thingsand living a life full of gratitude and respect.
