Kata practice has different speeds and power for self-development.
Each one is important.
We practice at half speed and power.
We practice at three-quarter speed and power.
We use just speed with the normal two second pauses, the
speed emphasis in the delivery of the technique, not the foot placement. We practice at full speed and power 110% or more.
If all the practice sessions were taped and set at the same exact
timing/speed, we would easily discern the difference, speed or power employed, because
each would have a unique "life" of its own.
Research this well.
For life or death situations karate is always executed at full speed and
power for maximum effectiveness.
