To all deshi:
This was our first Book Club event. 15 deshi attended.
It was like the end of the after workout parties from years ago. We sat
in a circle and one by one got to ask questions or give
comments. Refreshments were served. It went from 10:00AM
till 12:20PM, next month we will end at 11:30AM!
Needless to say it was G-R-E-A-T!!!
July SRKUSA Museum Book Club...first book
Shorin-Ryu Karate USA Q & A Book
by William Cummins &Robert Scaglione
1. Who's idea was the book?
2. How long did it take to write?
3. Where did you write the book?
4. What is the purpose of the book?
5. What was the most difficult part to research?
6. Where did the information come form?
7. Who is Bill Cummins?
8. Why is the cover red?
9. What did Master Ueshiro contribute to the book?
It was an exciting exchange of information from Kyoshi
to the students. We got some super input from all the
students. The book took four years to write, It has amazing
graphics, drawings, charts and diagrams created by Bill
Cummins. The discussion re-inforced the aspect of the roots
of Karate developed by the Okinawans who were forced to
defend themselves without
weapons which makes the art indigenous to Okinawa in that
every other nation have had some sort of weapons for defense.
