Form Throughout
The Kata.

The art of karate is more than aesthetics, it was developed for  maximum effectiveness. The form is most important.  The most common "errors" are:

1. Raising or reaching forward with the shoulders. The shoulders must be down and back, especially on impact to the target real or imagined. On impact the muscles are tensed to maximum contraction the lats (upper back), the deltoids (shoulders) including the trapezius (neck and upper back) and the pectorals (chest) all act in concert to deliver a technique (block or strike). Simply stated "shoulders down and back".

2. Too wide a stance.(discussed on 3/2/98).

3. Not stepping first (discussed 10/28/97).

The listed form principles are the most common "corrections" given.

Arigato, Kyoshi Robert Scaglione.
