Stance

This week is a reminder about measuring the width and length of the distance between the feet in the various stances. We use the fist as a yardstick for this purpose. It is important to monitor ourselves to be sure we are using the proper stance throughout the practice of kata. Once the feet are properly placed in the stance then the weight distribution also becomes imperative. Proper stances afford us the maximum benefits in karate training by natural body alignment. Effective use of the arms, legs, back, hips and the entire muscular structure of the body are an added feature to this principal (technique). We are able to generate maximum power into each move with less effort when we are properly balanced in a correct stance. The fist measuring method is described in all of our "text books" and/or check with your Shihan through the instructors.

Arigato,
Kyoshi Robert Scaglione
